Norwegian oil and gasoline firm Equinor has drilled a dry effectively close to the Johan Castberg discipline within the Barents Sea offshore Norway.

The major exploration goal for the effectively was to show petroleum in reservoir rocks within the Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic (the Tubåen Formation).

The secondary exploration goal was to gather knowledge to enhance understanding of potential reservoir rocks within the Upper Triassic (elements of the Fruholmen Formation).

In the first exploration goal, the effectively encountered the Tubåen Formation with a thickness of about 110 metres, of which a complete of 50 metres of sandstone layers with excellent reservoir properties.

About 290 metres of the Fruholmen Formation have been drilled within the secondary exploration goal, whereof a number of sandstone layers totalling 75 metres with reservoir properties various from good to excellent.

The effectively is dry and it was not formation-tested, however knowledge acquisition has been carried out.

This is the tenth exploration effectively in manufacturing licence 532, which was awarded within the 20th licensing spherical in 2009.

The effectively 7219/9-Three was drilled to a vertical depth of 1306 metres under sea degree and was terminated within the Fruholmen Formation within the Upper Triassic.
