Indian photo voltaic module producer Vikram Solar is ready to collaborate with France’s Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) on photo voltaic PV and power storage expertise growth.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed this week throughout French president Emmanuel Macron’s go to to India, throughout which Macron and Indian PM Narendra Modi formally opened the 75 MW Mirzapur photo voltaic PV plant in Uttar Pradesh state.

According to Vikram Solar, the collaboration goals to “improve analysis and developments on excessive effectivity crystalline silicon cells, modules, techniques and a bunch of excessive effectivity technology and storage applied sciences” and is geared toward merchandise for the Indian and French markets.

Under the MoU, the CEA will share its information and applied sciences within the fields of solar energy, power storage, sensible grid and thermal effectivity whereas Vikram Solar will apply the applied sciences in large-volume manufacturing.

The collaboration’s wider targets, Vikram Solar mentioned, are to enhance PV cells and modules to carry out at document effectivity in power conversion, and to extend the capability of battery storage options.

Other areas of collaboration in R&D will embody crystallization and wafering, mono- and bi-facial modules, agri-photovoltaics and photo voltaic mobility in addition to exploring new aggressive supplies so as to scale back prices, the agency mentioned.

Gyanesh Chaudhary, Vikram Solar’s MD and CEO, mentioned the settlement “will strengthen our deal with newer expertise and in flip improve alternative for each events to work in the direction of a extra sustainable and environment friendly ecosystem”.

Christophe Gégout, CEA deputy chair, added: “Our affiliation with Vikram Solar comes at a time when the necessity for renewables is at an all-time excessive in India in addition to globally.

“This is an ideal time for us to leverage our power in analysis and growth and fuse it with Vikram Solar’s longstanding place as a number one international photo voltaic module participant with key deal with high quality, expertise and innovation.”

In addition to work on photo voltaic thermal and concentrating solar energy (CSP) applied sciences, the CEA says its photo voltaic analysis focuses on enhancing output and lowering prices for PV modules in addition to grid simulation for renewables integration.
