MacGregor has positioned an order with Kongsberg Maritime for its Pile Gripper Guidance System (PGGS) for the Alfa Lift basis set up vessel, which China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) is at present constructing for Offshore Heavy Transport (OHT).

In August, MacGregor introduced an EPC contract for the vessel’s the monopile lifting, skidding and switch system. The firm then stated the system was an integral a part of the set up course of using an upending software and a motion-compensated gripper body, with the latter being interfaced with the vessel’s dynamic positioning (DP) and management system in an built-in resolution developed collectively with Kongsberg Maritime.

Under the contract simply signed by MacGregor and Kongsberg Maritime, MacGregor will ship a motion-compensated pile gripper body, whereas the PGGS will combine the gripper with different Kongsberg Maritime programs on board Alfa Lift.

A Ok-Pos dual-redundant DP system will interface with a Ok-Chief marine automation system and Ok-Thrust thruster management system, whereas a Ok-Bridge built-in navigation system will present a single, intuitive person interface for the ship’s a number of related programs, in line with Kongsberg Maritime. A full suite of Ok-Power merchandise will accommodate the primary switchboard, turbines and drives, whereas KM’s azimuth and tunnel thrusters will care for the vessel’s propulsion, steering and positioning thrust.

“Kongsberg Maritime and MacGregor have each been working in shut collaboration to develop this new, built-in monopile set up resolution, incorporating KM’s most subtle, up-to-date automated dealing with performance”, Kongsberg Maritime stated.

“By eradicating the necessity for non permanent mooring procedures throughout set up operations, the answer will improve security, productiveness and mission consistency, producing substantial financial savings in money and time for the specialist transport and set up contractor OHT. In time, these optimistic modifications might be mirrored in a wider sense when the idea is rolled out throughout the offshore wind vitality market”.

OHT’s Alfa Lift, on account of be delivered in early 2021, has already been chosen for the transport and set up of monopile foundations and transition items at Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B wind farms.

The 216.Three-metre vessel might be outfitted with a Three,000-tonne principal crane, a 10,000+ m² “sensible” deck that may carry as much as 14 XL monopiles per journey, and might be absolutely submersible to a depth of 14.66 metres.

CMHI, which is developing Alfa Lift at its facility in Jiangsu below an order it acquired from OHT in July 2018, reduce the primary metal on 1 March 2019.

The vessel, designed by OHT in shut cooperation with Ulstein Design & Solutions BV, Liebherr and DNV GL, might be able to putting in all kinds of bottom-fixed offshore wind foundations and also will transport and set up topsides and subsea modules, along with different heavy cargoes inside oil and fuel.
