French cable specialist Nexans has received a contract value greater than $170m for the large Hornsea 2 offshore windfarm being constructed within the UK by Danish power firm Ørsted.

Nexans will provide over 200 km of 245 kV cross-linked polyethylene insulated (XLPE) near-shore export cables.

Located within the North Sea off the Yorkshire coast, the 1.four GW windfarm would be the world’s largest as soon as it begins working, which is scheduled for 2022.

Nexans three-core HVAC submarine cables will deliver the electrical energy onshore. The 245 kV XLPE cables will probably be a part of the near-shore part of the export circuits linking the windfarm’s reactive energy substation to the onshore substation.
