Air Liquide and Siemens Energy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to analysis and develop PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolysis know-how.
According to the assertion, they intend to focus their actions on these key areas: co-creation of huge industrial-scale hydrogen initiatives in collaboration with prospects, laying the bottom for mass manufacturing of electrolyzers in Europe, particularly in Germany and France, and R&D actions to co-develop next-generation electrolyzer applied sciences.

With this cooperation, Air Liquide and Siemens Energy plan to provoke a European ecosystem for electrolysis and hydrogen know-how along with different companions. The companions have already recognized cooperation alternatives for giant scale sustainable hydrogen initiatives each in France, Germany and different European international locations. One of those alternatives is the Air Liquide-H2V Normandy venture in France with a capability of 200MW.
Christian Bruch, CEO of Siemens Energy, mentioned: “Building up a sustainable Hydrogen economic system will nonetheless require to amend the framework circumstances within the power market. However, will probably be by partnerships and collaboration that we are able to form this market. We extremely recognize to co-create progressive options with Air Liquide. Collectively we are going to overcome the challenges that lie forward to industrialize the know-how and make sustainably generated hydrogen successful story.”
Benoît Potier, chairman and CEO of Air Liquide, mentioned: “Hydrogen is a key enabler of the power transition. In the context of unprecedented acceleration in Europe of hydrogen applied sciences and markets, the time to scale-up is now, notably in France and Germany. The partnership between Air Liquide and Siemens Energy paves the way in which for the creation of a number one European ecosystem able to supplying decarbonised hydrogen at aggressive costs and selling the emergence of a low-carbon society. We look ahead to this Franco-German cooperation.”

Bruno Le Maire, French Minister of Economy, Finance and the Recovery, mentioned: “Now, is the time to take a position massively so as to develop new worth chains and new applied sciences. Now, is the time to behave… The formidable venture of Air Liquide and Siemens Energy is just the start of commercial cooperation that should develop past a Franco-German alliance. The restoration should be above all a European restoration. I additionally salute Air Liquide’s mobilisation within the framework of the French hydrogen plan, notably by its participation and dedication throughout the National Hydrogen Council.”
Hydrogen is believed to be a key pillar in reaching the European Union’s aims for CO2 and greenhouse fuel emission discount. In order to satisfy quickly rising demand, and to decrease prices, it’s key to speed up the manufacturing of sustainably generated hydrogen by large-scale PEM electrolysers.
In the framework of their cooperation Air Liquide and Siemens Energy will collectively apply for giant initiatives funding beneath the EU’s Green Deal and Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI)-scheme for hydrogen, funded by the French and German Governments. The IPCEI-funding is required to quick begin these actions and meet the difficult timeline set out by the European Green New Deal, the EU Hydrogen Strategy, in addition to the French and German National Hydrogen Strategies.
