Engineering firm MAN Energy Solutions and Chinese state-owned power firm China National Machinery Corporation (CHMC) have commissioned a 200MW energy era plant in Cambodia.
The two power corporations have handed over the Phnom Penh energy plant to Cambodian utility Electricité du Cambodge.
The energy plant includes eleven MAN 18V51/60DF engines to generate sufficient electrical energy to energy 70,000 households.

Wayne Jones OBE, chief gross sales officer at MAN Energy Solutions, stated: “The new energy plant will make a major contribution to securing the ability provide in Cambodia − no matter climate or weather conditions.”
The growth and commissioning of the mission follows Cambodia struggling heavy power shortages within the dry seasons because of failure by the nation’s hydropower vegetation to function at full capability. This pushed the Cambodian authorities to launch an emergency programme in 2019 aimed toward stabilising power provide by way of versatile era capability.
The eleven engines had been delivered and commissioned in lower than 20 months as Cambodia rallied to satisfy rising power demand and era plummeted. Despite the operational challenges attributable to the pandemic, the mission was efficiently delivered.
Martin Höhler, head of energy, Asia Pacific Region at MAN Energy Solutions, provides: “For three months within the spring of 2020, our supervisors had been solely in a position to monitor the meeting of the plant remotely.
“However, due to digital instruments, a particular effort by all sides and our glorious cooperation with CHMC, we had been in a position to make up this time and keep the bold schedule.”
The energy plant will initially run on heavy gas oil, nonetheless, will also be powered by lower-emission pure gasoline sooner or later.
“The plant is positioned instantly on the banks of the Mekong River within the Lvea Aem district in Kandal Province, with the potential so as to add an LNG terminal at a later date. Our engines are designed for pure gasoline and may change seamlessly from one gas kind to a different throughout operation,” Höhler defined.
MAN PrimeServ has been awarded a five-year service contract for the upkeep of the mission. MAN Energy may even provide OEM spare elements, particular companies and digital options for the ability plant.
