Pacific Drilling has secured a contract for the drillship Pacific Khamsin with the Malaysian state firm Petronas. The contract is for one agency properly offshore Mexico with two priced possibility wells and two extra possibility wells at market value. Pacific Drilling disclosed a dayrate of $196,000 for the agency properly which incorporates the lump-sum mobilization charge amortized over the agency contract interval.
Pacific Khamsin accomplished its project to Total for Equinor in November 2020. The ultra-deepwater drillship drilled Equinor’s Monument exploration properly within the central US Gulf of Mexico resulting in an oil discovery (April 2020).
Pacific Khamsin is an upgraded Samsung 12,000 design dynamically-positioned Dual Gradient succesful drillship, capable of function in average environments and water depths as much as three,657 m (12,000 ft) utilizing 18¾” BOP and 21” OD marine drilling riser, tailored for single and twin gradient drilling.
Pacific Drilling took supply of the vessel in September 2013 at Samsung’s Geoje shipyard in South Korea. Pacific Khamsin began drilling operations in December 2013 offshore Nigeria with Chevron at a dayrate of $650,000.
The drillship is at present at anchor off the coast of Louisiana close to Port Fourchon.
