The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) and Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) has introduced Marico Marine because the winner of the third ADMIRALTY Marine Innovation Programme problem.

Led by the UKHO’s Research, Design and Innovation workforce, the programme has given innovators and start-ups the prospect to develop options that clear up a number of the world’s most urgent challenges with regards to our oceans.

For the programme’s third innovation problem, which was run in partnership with Cefas, members have been requested to show how marine geospatial knowledge may assist determine new areas for offshore renewable power infrastructure.

In response to this problem, Marico Marine developed a geospatial constraints mapping toolkit that helps builders and regulators to know the affect transport may have on initiatives from an early stage within the planning course of. By combining ADMIRALTY knowledge with superior GIS evaluation mariner experience, the toolkit will permit the identification of potential hotspots inside proposed mission boundaries.

The affect initiatives may have on transport and wider maritime navigation is a key consideration for consenting authorities, but it’s usually thought of late within the license software course of.

Marico Marine’s resolution will make it commercially viable for transport and wider maritime navigation implications to be thought of at an earlier stage, doubtlessly saving tens of millions of kilos of funding.

Marico Marine’s UK director, André Cocuccio, mentioned: “We are extraordinarily proud to be chosen by the UKHO as winners of this innovation problem, and have bold plans for the answer within the offshore renewables market.

“With this partnership, the chance for Marico to develop an alpha product supported by the experience and authoritative knowledge provided by the UKHO is an thrilling one. Shipping and navigation is a posh receptor to judge, and our product is focused at decreasing the chance that proposed initiatives are rejected on these grounds. We look ahead to the months forward and creating a robust product with the UKHO that we hope may have an actual affect on the business.”

Mark Casey head of the UK Hydrographic Office’s Research, Design and Innovation workforce, provides: “I’d wish to congratulate Marico Marine on creating this improbable resolution. As we enter the UN’s Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, we have to discover new methods to develop our marine economic system while decreasing our affect on the atmosphere. Ocean renewables may also help us to realize this stability by decreasing our dependency on damaging fossil fuels and serving to communities world wide to entry a extra sustainable supply of power.

“Marico Marine’s resolution will assist to develop this sector by giving builders entry to marine geospatial knowledge that helps to determine the most effective areas for brand new offshore power infrastructure.
